It was so hot today with lots of sunshine and no wind so I took a stroll through the dark cool shady evergreens woods to Quade creek that lies on the edge of our property to do some sketching.
I love this spot where it is dark with sunlight filtering through the trees and branches, placing spots of bright and warm colors on the cool colored branches. Over the years, green moss has grown on the log steps leading to the creek so that walking down each step is a little slippery. There are several cedar trees that line the pathway down the steps with long branches reaching out to grab for secure walking. Near the creek is an old decade Douglas fir trunk with several deep holes in it that the woodpeckers have burrowed in search of bugs. The bugs no longer nest in the tree trunk and I have never seen any birds nesting in the holes.
